History:

WOW. Where to start.

Kate grew up in Iowa, was a cornfed farmgirl, got straight A's, yadda yadda yadda. *Except*, she always wanted to run away. Why? Cause her stepdad was a fucktard. He beat her mom, had a boozing problem, etc. But Kate put up with it, because she believed that he really wasnt her stepdad, and not her flesh and blood. Until she was 24, making a scrapbook for her "real" dad's birthday, and realized that "real" daddy was in the Korean war until about 4 months before her birth.... realizing it wasnt really possible for him to have been able to concieve her four months before her birth, she realized aforementioned "stepdad" is actually "real" dad. At this thought, she immediately plans to kill him, finally doing it one night as real dad comes home drunk as a skunk. She leads inside, puts him to bed and drives off on her motorbike... only to have the house explode into little bits about 30 seconds later.

She goes to her mom to give her some insurance policy she took out on the house, telling her she wasn't going to see her for a while; marking the start of her run from the law. So what does she do next? She goes to see who she thought was her real dad to spaz at him for not telling her that he wasnt her real father. He claims she was 5 years old and he wanted to take her with him to get her away from real daddy, but her mother wouldnt let him. So Kate asks "why didn't you kill him?", and step-daddy gives her a crushed look and says "Because I dont have murder in my heart." and Kate gets an "Oh, ouch." look on her face and leaves.

In between then and the time she gets on a plane from Sydney, Australia, she robs a bank, goes to visit her old childhood sweetheart (*and* gets him killed, much to her heartbreak) and works on a farm in Australia (plus god knows what else the show has in mind *wink*). The farmer she works for figures out she's a fugitive and turns her in, and finally she's caught, being escorted back to LA via Oceanic flight 815 by the federal US marshal that had been tracking her for those three years.

To make a long story short: Plane crashes, terror, confusion and romantic angst ensue. Kate jumps back and forth from being the runner she's always been to being a protective figure to the people she's bonded with, to trailing after Jack or Sawyer (the hot love interests) or making them trail after her. Had to sew up Jack's skin with her bare hands (quite traumatic, given she's a bit squeamish), had to kiss Sawyer in order for him to give back some meds (that he didnt actually have) , found one of her fellow castaways strung up dead in a tree, plus a billion more traumtic and confusing events. [End things that have *actually* happened and into the AU! yay!]

After many long months on the island, Kate and the others are finally rescued. Kate somehow manages to slip under the radar when they dock and flees, desperately trying to find somewhere to hide, cause killing her dad isnt disqualified now that she lived almost a year of hell on that desert island, unfortunately. She heard about a place in Canada that was remote and safe, so she went there as soon as she could, and is finally there!

Personality in seven words or less: Firey, passionate, stubborn, protective, sensitive (despite the cold exterior. ... crap, 9 words. *apologizes*)
How Others Perceive Your Character: the women'll probably either love her or hate her. She tends to close off all mention of her background, and some people percieve that as her being a bitch. But she really is a good person (aside from the whole murdering her father thing, which was really a misguided attempt to protect her mother, and so she wasnt limiting herself anymore). She cares about people and their wellbeing, she falls in love fairly easily but has learned to detatch herself in her years of running, but hopes she can un-learn that survival technique.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: Kate doesnt believe in God, or fate. She believes in freedom, and that people can change. She believes that people can geniunely regret former actions and change because of them. She does her best to believe in the human race as a whole, but its not so easy sometimes. She has good morals, despite the fact that she killed her father, and does her best to live by them, trying to be a good person.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: The law, the guilt that's eating at her for so many things (i.e. getting her old boyfriend killed, scaring the crap outta her mom for killing her dad, etc...)
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: To be able to finally be free from the law, to be able to put the past behind her and be happy, maybe fall in love or something equally as happy.
